As Wonwoo sings in the first lines: "One you (the girl) and two moons (the boys)", there are three friends: two males and a girl. At a certain point the two guys starts falling in love with her. But she prefers Wonwoo over Mingyu, and you can tell by the fact that she gave his hat to Wonwoo (there is no scene where she gives her hat to him but, after 0:48 you see at 1:43 the hat is the same), and also by comparing the way she stares at Wonwoo (smiling and 'flirting') at 0:48 and the way she stares at Mingyu (quite coldly) at 0:32. Meanwhile, the boys are afraid to hurt each other feelings despite the love they both have for the girl. In particular, Wonwoo is the closest to the female and he knows that she feels something for him too. He initially sings: "I can't get closer, I'm sorry I'm like this", expressing he'd like to be more than just friends with her but he knows that Mingyu would suffer from this. Later, he cites a "Touch of a season passed-by", because in his heart he knows he wants to choose the girl (at 1:10 it seems like he's almost ready to confess to her while listening the same music) and he's thinking that his friendships would be a season passed-by if he picks the girl over Mingyu. It would be a season passed-by both referred to the relationship with Mingyu in a sad way (because they wouldn't be friends anymore) and to the relationship with the girl in a good way (because after the end of their friendship they'd become lovers). Then Wonwoo says: "I stand still before you (Mingyu), bеfore me", concluding "I'm okay, not okay" because, after imagining how things would change if he picks her, he still can't decide between friendship and relationship. Also the girl is hesitant: when she sings "Eyes meeting (hers and those of Wonwoo) but hearts apart" you can really get the feeling of having someone you like but not being possible to show it because someone (Mingyu) could suffer from this. She and Wonwoo share in this sense the same situation: their hearts are both apart, divided between each other and Mingyu. In all this, Mingyu has already given up: he seems more like a second lead indeed, also his figure and his scenes being blurred or obscured suggest this. Moreover, his surrendering eyes at the beginning (0:26) while looking at the girl express this. He knows very well that the girl likes Wonwoo instead of him, and by saying "Hiding the truth, pretending I'm fine" he wants to express the fact that he's willing to sacrifice his love to see his friends happy (since they both like each other). And when he sings: "I want an answer that I don't think I can find" he's probably thinking about the future: if Wonwoo (and also the girl) will stay friends with him even after becoming a couple. Of course this scenario hurts him and by telling: "I want the next thing", he's screaming that he's tired of all this and wants to move on. He repeats to himself that demanding the girl's love, that he cannot have ("If I give my hand and expect your heart"), would be too selfish of him and would only raise the distance between the three of them. He's trying not to think about them but it's hard, he says "Ruinous imagination consumes me" indeed ('ruinous imagination' is about him both dreaming of being the girl's boyfriend and thinking about Wonwoo and the woman becoming a couple). All of this makes him "Dream sweeter dreams", since he wants to focus his mind on something else. In the meantime Wonwoo is still stuck in his decision: "I close my eyes but thoughts of you (Mingyu) bring turmoil to night, to you (the girl) and me, real and dreamy". He knows that the feelings he and the girl have for each other are real but dreamy at the same time since they're not fully expressed, because there's Mingyu between them. The turning point of the story is when Wonwoo make up his mind after hesitating so much (1:32): right when we thought he would choose the girl, he gives his hat (that the girl gave him) to Mingyu, as if he wants to tell him: "Although it hurts, I'll choose our friendship". But Mingyu returns the hat to Wonwoo, meaning he's willing to step aside. After this part, there is a scene where the three of them run together. But you can see at 1:50 that the only happy people are Wonwoo and the girl, because they can finally be together. That's why they both look at Mingyu with that gaze of gratitude at 2:02, even if soon after their eyes become bitter (for the girl because she knows that she can't be friends with Mingyu anymore; for Wonwoo because he has to decide what to do with Mingyu). This is probably the last time Mingyu will see the girl due to unrequited feelings. Although Mingyu knows he's taken the best decision, it's bittersweet (his eyes at 2:15 really give this vibe). He's happy to make his friend (and the girl) happy but his dying inside. His choice was very difficult and at 2:06 you can see his look full of mixed emotions: sadness because he won't be with the girl but also because he'll loose two precious friends (Wonwoo and the woman), tiredness of always pretending to be fine and hiding his real emotions, defeat (he has lost to Wonwoo) and sense of loss (he doesn't know what it will be after this). His eyes seems to say "Goodbye" to the girl and maybe also to his friend. At the end of the song he questions himself: "Will our eyes ever meet each other?" (thinking of Wonwoo). But then in the last part he sings: "Don't want to let go so I let go", which sounds more like "i've already lost the girl, I don't want to loose you too". Here, he's referring to the fact that he won't ever confess his love to the girl (he lets go); as for the thing he doesn't want to let go, he's talking about the friendship between him and Wonwoo (which is the only thing that can be saved, but it all depends on Wonwoo). The last scene is the scene where Wonwoo has to decide. The possibilities are two: Wonwoo decides to stay friends with Mingyu, so you can see the final reunion of them as a way for Wonwoo to thank him for letting him stay with the girl, and to say "Even after this, nothing will change", or Wonwoo decides not to see Mingyu again (because he knows that he'd suffer from seeing him with the girl), and so you can see the last scene as a way to thank each other for everything and to say goodbye for the last time. The choice is up to you! Last but not the least, I'd like you to focus on the last scene, at the moment 2:35 where Mingyu is out in the rain looking at Wonwoo. At first his expression seems like he's going to cry, in fact at the beginning of the song he says: "I'm hiding in the rain always smiling" (so it's just rain on his face or also tears?). But you can see that after looking at Wonwoo he smiles again. And this smile is very different from the others, it's not fake, here Mingyu's smile is real, genuine because he has finally accepted his destiny and because he has seen how happy Wonwoo is with the girl. So, whether you think their friendship won't last or their friendship will continue even after this, the ending of the mv remains bittersweet: if you think they will stay friends, Mingyu won't totally be ok seeing the girl he loves with his best friend (and also the friendship with Wonwoo won't be the same as before); if you believe they won't be friends anymore, this is so bitter even if it's sweet at the same time because Mingyu and Wonwoo were both willing to choose their friendship over the girl (it's just Mingyu that decides for Wonwoo in the end, by returning the girl's hat back to him). No matter what final you prefer, there is no victory in choosing between friendship or love: the three of them will suffer anyway somehow. In any case I like to think that, in my interpretation, the friendship between Mingyu and Wonwoo is a great friendship. In the mv the feelings are so well shown: throughout the video you can see that Mingyu hardly smiles and when he does, he's just pretending. Wonwoo never smiles at the beginning but the more he stays with the girl, the more he starts smiling and laughing. Even though this is bittersweet, the mv end up with the both of them smiling genuinely and hugging each other. In the last scene, in fact, you can tell that they really love each other and, no matter how their story will end, they wont' hold a grudge towards each other. They both were willing to even suppress their feelings for the girl not to hurt each other.

My interpretation of the mv was: Mingyu likes the girl but the girl likes Wonu. But i think the hat was a metaphor of the girl's heart. When wonu gave the hat to gyu, it was like wonwoo saying that he's keeping his friendship w/ gyu and gyu can have his way with the girl w/o wonu interfering their relationship. But Mingyu, maybe he knows that it might complicate their friendship so they both let go of the girl that's why she's nowhere to found in the ending.

My interpreation is that Mingyu is someone who's fighting a losing battle for love. He's always second no matter how fast he runs. The girl is always shown together in one frame with Wonwoo but never with Mingyu. The rain signifies that he's still hiding his tears - taking his moment before he turns to Wonwoo - accepting defeat. The bittersweet moment of choosing other people's happiness over your own. Edit: I didn't expect this to gain that attention. I commented this after watching Mingyu and Wonwoo invite everyone to write their own interpretations. It's art. All other interpretations are valid 🙂

The woman and Mingyu were never together in one frame. Thus, she really did pick Wonwoo. Yet, Wonwoo tried to let her go symbolized by the hat. Mingyu was ready to let go giving back the hat. In the end, the colors red and blue are gone. A little hint of yellow or orange was left symbolizing their friendship. To answer Wonwoo, love becomes love when you're ready to give up what you cherish to make someone else happy.

i saw someone put out a theory that maybe the girl isn't supposed to be real, she's a personified as their love, or their blossoming love. they're never seen really touching her, and half way through the mv, she's just gone. and that by the end, both mingyu and wonwoo play their little back and forth, but they ultimately are too scared so they both back out and stay friends. they never tell the other they were in love, so they can remain friends. and i think this makes so much sense because we see mingyu look at wonwoo throughout the mv. and we see so many shots with him and wonwoo. theres only one time we see him with the girl and it was her seemingly telling him where wonwoo was. and maybe why wonwoo was with her was him exploring his crush on mingyu. and maybe he was even about to confess. and maybe the hat was symbolizing him telling mingyu that "you'll always be my best friend i love you" and mingyu giving it back would mean that its mutual. but i dont think they both knew that the i love yous weren't platonic. which would play into that sad sequence of them in the rain covering their tears. that now the girl isnt there, its a symbol that they pretend they don't have this blossoming love. they were willing to give up their feelings to remain friends. and this would play into what the weverse notification sent when this release that this MV was the story of friendship vs blossoming love in adults. they were both in love but both didnt want to possibly lose their friendship, so they didn't talk it out and they instead pretend that the blossoming love they have isn't there. and i think thats why its so bittersweet. because as the audience we're just observing them and see that they have a mutual crush so they should confess already. and while its sweet they chose friendship, it feels bitter because if they just confessed honestly, they could date and be open with each other. they were so close, yet so far.

Really interesting how Mingyu, Wonwoo, and Lee Hi's voices blended in this song. Given that the guys are rappers in SEVENTEEN, they both have this raspy and deep vocal color which fits so well with the angst the song demands. Lee hi's voice has always been amazing to me because of its delicious deepness and fullness and I must say her voice is a really great addition to the song. I really like it; It is something I'd listen to during rainy days or when I'm working on something (since it's just laid back, chill at most. Reminds me of H&D's Umbrella). As for the music video, I'm delighted it didn't focus on either of the guy's quote by quote 'suffering' for liking the same girl but instead sprinkled a little bit of sadness, longing, and amazing friendship at the end. The rain scene touched my heart; It's refreshing to see a plot like this end with the supposedly rivals pick their friendship above else. Congratulations for this single, Wonwoo, Mingyu, and Lee Hi!
